Wes Anderson has quickly become one of the most popular directors in all of the movie industry. I don't think he's going to be the next guy in line to direct a major blockbuster, but I don't think that has ever been his mission objective. Anderson is most comfortable working with a close circle of actors, producing quirky, yet quality films.
In my opinion, the following movies are some of Wes Anderson's best.
The Darjeeling Limited is the first film that I will discuss. Owen Wilson, Jason Schwartzman, and Adrian Brody are the stars of this film, which a brief appearance by Natalie Portman. I don't know why I liked this movie so much, but it is a great movie to watch by yourself.
If you ask diehard Wes Anderson fans what their favorite movie of his is, there is a good chance you get met with the answer, The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou. This is a peculiar comedy, yet lighthearted and ends up holding sentimental meaning by the end.
Another film that I feel compelled to put on this list is Rushmore. This movie was released in 1998 and all I can say, is it is much different than other high school movies that were released around a similar time.
The Royal Tenenbaums is my personal favorite Wes Anderson film. While all his movies tend to have pretty good casts, this one I think has the best cast of all. Gene Hackman, Angelica Huston, Ben Stiller, Luke Wilson, Owen Wilson, Gwyneth Paltrow, Bill Murray and Daniel Glover star in this film.
Last but not least is Mr. Anderson's first film of all, Bottle Rocket. Anderson and Owen Wilson wrote this film together, and it was clear after this movie that Anderson had an incredibly promising career ahead of him.
As always, I cannot wait to see what great movies the future holds for Wes Anderson.
